5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, February 21, 2010

I have headphones on most of the day - every day. I was looking for a new pair, because the previous, behind the head, style really irritated me. So, I researched for quite a while before I found these. I was looking for a pair that was NOT over the ear, since I didn't want that weight and feel all day long. I was also looking for the single wire from one side and volume control. I would have settled for less, but luckily found these.

I am extremely impressed with the sound blocking. I was absolutely shocked at how much sound is blocked. It just doesn't seem possible, considering their small size. It's kinda weird actually. Because I wear them all day, there are times when the noise blocking is actually a hindrance, so I wind up moving one side off the ear so I can hear my surroundings. It's not ideal, but that is not the fault of the headphones.

They are very comfortable. I can literally wear them for 8 hours straight without the least bit of... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid pair of portable headphones, January 15, 2010

I bought these as a replacement for my broken PX 200s 1st edition. My experience with the 1st gens was that they were great overall, although they had the following cons:

1. The cable was made up of two individual wires. This meant that the cable would get tangled upon itself and just about every time id put them on, I would have to spin the cable around to get it straightened
2. The cable split to both ear pieces. This resulted in the cable always being directly under your chin which could at times be awkward
3. Extended use (1 hour or more) made my ears get sweaty, regardless of volume

The 2nd gens have corrected each of the above mentioned issues. The cable is one solid wire, meaning no tangles. The cable only connects to the LEFT ear piece, meaning that the wire goes down more gracefully by the side of your face. Ive worn them to the gym 3 or 4 times, and have not experienced much ear-sweat, if any.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great closed headphones., January 6, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
These headphones are great for on ear closed headphones. These do not block all outside noises but they do muffle them and they also do not leak music as to disturb others around you. Great for desk use at work. The headphones can also be used safely while jogging outside because they still allow you to hear things around you, just not as much as open headphones. The sound quality is excellent and much improved over the original PX 200s. The in line volume adjustment comes in very handy. The cord also comes out of the left ear piece which is also a very nice feature. The cord is a different texture that feels really smooth and elegant. These are very sturdily built and are much sturdier than the former PX 200s. Skip the PX 200s and purchase the PX 200-IIs. You will not regret this great Sennheiser purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds good, looks good, GREAT value, January 30, 2011

This review is from: Philips Customer Design Headband Headphones SHL8800/28 (Electronics)
I was badly in need of a pair of over-ear-style headphones that would reduce ambient sound, as I live in an apartment building and my upstairs neighbors are constantly stomping around and making all kinds of noise. However, I also needed them to be reasonably priced, and I wanted them to be reasonably cute. These fit the bill on all counts! The only time I've been able to hear my neighbors while I was wearing them is when they were assembling a piece of furniture, which involved pretty much constant hammering. (This was the same day I got the headphones... it was like they knew I'd be able to tune them out and made extra noise especially for me!) It was quite loud, so definitely don't consider it a flaw in these headphones that they weren't able to block that out.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the technical aspects of speakers or headphones, but I find the sound on these to be very satisfying. The bass comes through solidly, without overwhelming everything... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Like a private concert hall - update 11-22-2011, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Philips Customer Design Headband Headphones SHL8800/28 (Electronics)
Clear, crisp sound. Strong bass but overall very good from highs to lows. Strings, brass and wind instruments really stand out in classical music. I can clearly hear the fine details. Was testing them listening to AC/DC and I could feel my eyeballs vibrating.

Decent sound isolation; good construction*; Comfortable, soft and thick earpads and at top of band.

The price is nice.

*Update: These were great until a break in the wire where it enters the ear cup made them useless. I got about 6 months out of them. 1 star removed due to durability.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done; OK sound, August 13, 2011

This review is from: Philips Customer Design Headband Headphones SHL8800/28 (Electronics)
Sound: For the price, I can't complain too much. Still, the quality of sound is not as clear nor as rich as I would wish -- I've heard clearer, richer sounds on similarly-priced headphones -- but it's not terrible, and certainly not worth the trouble of going through the hassle of a refund process. But if I could start over, I probably would not buy.

Comfort: It's very comfortable for the first thirty or forty minutes. Then the rims of your ears start hurting a little.

Construction: Seems very sturdy. The ability to change into your own designed look is sweet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound Nirvana, October 21, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
Sound quality is very important to me so I've auditioned many headphones over the years. After trying a set of Creative Aurvana Live! headphones, I found them to be a solid performer. They easily hold they're own against other sets in the mid-level price range.

I often listen to music for hours at a time so comfort is important. Because of their light weight and soft cushions, the headphones were easy to wear for extended periods of time. The ear pads rested comfortably on my ears without putting too much pressure on them.

I wanted to make sure these were appropriately burned in before writing this review, so after approximately 50 hours of listening, I can say the sound reproduction of these was great. At first, the highs were a bit shrill and the bass a bit muddy, but once the drivers were burned in, they produced a balanced sound. The bass was not too boomy, the vocals stood nicely in the foreground, and the highs were clear. The soundstage was not as... Read more

From my husband: "I opened the box with the ear phones and told my wife that I would just be a few minutes. I told her that I wanted to try them for a few minutes. I put the ear phones on, plug it into my IPAD and ITunes and planned to briefly explore the sound with a wide variety of music (country, folk, movie themes, Latin hymns, great masterpieces, holiday music and the list went on). Three hours later she nudged me and said that a few minutes was now 3 hours. These Ear Phone are the most comfortable I have ever tried, I do not feel them when they are on. The sounds they produce are rich and when I listen to orchestras I could clearly hear the different instruments. I am not a musician so forgive me for my layman explanation-with pieces where you have a sound slowly build up and then become the main sound in a piece, you can clearly hear the instruments that are building the sound. There is no static or distortions. Now when I put them on my wife waves goodbye because... Read more

PORTABILITY: These are surprisingly light, making it easy to take around with you. Also, the handy carrying bag gives you a pair of draw strings to loop your hand through for easy of carrying.

CORD LENGTH: At first I was concerned the cord was a little too short to have the mp3 player in my pocket while wearing the headphones, but it was just enough. If I needed a bit more length on the cord, they were nice enough to provide a 3-4ft extension cord. Nice!

COMFORTABILITY: I have the Sennheiser HD 558 Audiophile Headphones with an Internal Surround Reflector which are fantastic headphones...and they better be for the price. What Sennheiser chooses to do is make the headphone opening large enough to encompass your ear with room to spare around it. Nothing is touching your ears for the most part. These Creative headphone... Read more
