Product Description
Considered by many to be the world's finest headphone, without regard to price, the HiFiMAN HE-6 features the company's proprietary planar magnetic technology in a no-compromise design. With sensitivity of 83.5dB, the HE-6 must be paired with a headphone amplifier of comparable quality such as the HiFiMAN EF5 which delivers 2 watts per channel. The HE-6 is the reference choice of critical listeners around the world.
HE-6 require a powerful headphone amplifier to drive it. Our EF6 headphone amplifier can serve 5 watt per channel at 50 Ohm.

HiFiMan - HE-6 Headphones Reviews
| 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: HiFiMan - HE-6 Headphones (Electronics) The big question of course is how these sound compared to, say, "the benchmark" Sennheiser HD800 (in this price range): I leave this to the experts. However, running these off my HM-801 (which is simply the best portable, fullstop) via a suitable amp (herein the problem) leaves one very satisfied. These headphones are open type so the overall sound is very "breezy" or delightfully airy, and not closed. You can hear alot of external room sounds (even the whisper of the a/c can affect your listening pleasure!) as a result but once there is music, one is in bliss. In layman's terms, jazz/classical music is beautifully clear, vocals are fab, instruments can generally be picked off one by one in clarity, bass is good (but not room thumping, naturally, but well articulated)... The sound stage is intimate and more close-up compared perhaps to the more widely dispersed 'concert' sound of the Sennheisers in general so personal preferences are key. I like both but have found myself,... Read more By Peter L. More difficult, they say, than the speaker-like AKG 1000. Many people give up on the HE-6 in frustration, unless they have a powerful speaker amp to use it with. And therein lies a conundrum, because if you have a powerful amp you very likely are using it to drive speakers for your primary listening and may not want or need an expensive headphone, such as the HE-6; and if you are to use the HE-6 for desktop listening it is difficult to find an amp to mate with it. They say Headroom's Ultimate Desktop Amp, HiFiMAN's EF5, and Burson's HA-160 drive it (but not the Grace). Red Wine Audio's Isabellina sounds wonderful with it. However, rule out almost all portable amps, notably except ALO's RX MK3-B, which drives it beautifully. So you have to seriously consider the amp you will use before buying the HE-6. Why, then, should you want it? As a salesman (someone selling the very product!) said to me: "I don't know why they make that thing." They make it... Read more |
