I also own two Audio Technica's. The AD700 and M50. I use the headphones differently for different applications.The Ultrasone headphones were definitely worth the extra money. The tonal balance, the tight bass, the neutral but pleasant and rich sonics, beautiful wide and deep soundstage and most of all, the DETAIL retrieval. WOW!!!. I just love these headphones for everything. Well not for everything, they leak sound out and in, so for any alone times they will be the number one choice. They are comfortable and have very good solid build quality. I've listened to the supposed best of the best from Sennheiser HD800, Beyerdynamic (dt880,990, Shure P1000 and these headphones from Ultrasone (2nd best in the Ultrasone line I think) put the others to shame. (I only say this to give you an idea of what appeals to me if you are familiar with these products.) The Pro 900s are the best headphones I have ever heard. There are a lot of good personal audio products out there, but nothing matches the 900s to my ears. I have an external DAC and a quality amplifier. I use iTunes via an optic cable into the DAC.The 2400s are very detailed and they offer a lot of bass for an open can. Bass is something Ultrasone does very well. If you like the 780s, you will also like these. Very controlled bass, although not quite as impactful as the 780s, without being too much or inarticulate. Mids and highs are smooth. The pads are not quite as nice as on the 900s, but they are very soft. Overall, very comfortable. Not much clamping, but enough to keep 'em in place.
